Sofa Beds To The Rescue

October 25, 2009 by

When your house is too small to house guests the answer is to use a sofa bed which takes no room during everyday living. Thankfully there is a huge variety of styles of sofa beds to choose from and whether they are fold down or pull out metal mechanisms there will be one to suit your home. A day bed is another option for a sofa bed as it is both a bed and a sofa at the same time and takes a regular bed mattress, which many guests will find very comfortable.

Space Saving Sofa Beds

Having a sofa bed in a room is not only a great space saving option, but many teens like having this option in their room because they can change the look of their bedroom from a bedroom to a lounge type area and have friends over. Even in Colleges some dorms have sofa beds to give students more flexibility and variety in their living space, giving a feeling of being more than just a dorm.

Types Of Sofa Bed

Sofa Beds have come a long way over the years. In the early days sitting on a sofa bed was an ordeal and most were cumbersome and poor in sofa form, however, as time has passed designers have become more creative in designing Sofa Beds that are beautiful and functional at the same time. Todays sofa beds are available in a range of materials and finishes, including leather sofa beds and the once lowly futon has recieved many a makeover and can now be found in apartments and homes everywhere, there are even full leather futons for the ultimate in chic simple sleeping and seating comfort.

Some sofa beds have some downsides, however these are usually easily rectified. Metal frame pull out models can be difficult to man handle into position and con often be uncomfortable as they the metal frame can interfere with the sleeper. As irritating as this potential problem can be it is easily overcome by the purchase of a sofabed replacement mattress or seeking out a high quality bed at the time of purchase. Couches that fold down into beds often are uncomfortable at the fold part as it is not natural to have a seam like this in a normal bed, a good quality mattress topper that covers the whole bed will easily fix this problem. Daybeds make great beds but not so great couches, which is why they are often relegated to guest rooms and kids rooms as opposed to a living area.

Sofa Beds For Sleeping – Sofa Beds For Sitting

Overall, most sofa beds offer great seating and mediocre sleeping. However, this will vary depending on the quality of the bed. When purchasing a sofa bed it would behoove you to actually set up the bed portion and lay on it yourself to see how it works for you.
